Me and My Dog: The Ultimate Contest

Series 1

Episode 2

Duration: 58 minutes

First broadcast: on BBC Two Northern IrelandLatest broadcast: on BBC Two Northern Ireland

This physical and mental competition plays out in the Lake District where eight owners and their dogs compete together in a series of challenges - all in a bid to make it to the grand final. Only one pair can win but experts are on hand to help them all unlock the full potential of their partnerships. Chris Packham hosts and unveils the science behind the incredible bond between human and dog.

Owners hail from all over the UK and the canine competitors come in all shapes and sizes, from an energetic border terrier called Betty to a stoic labrador named Flapjack. Programme two's challenges are all designed to test the levels of trust between them. The eight pairs are split into two groups - the reds and the yellows and it is the reds who have the first chance to score points in a paddleboarding challenge in chilly Lake Windermere. The key is to persuade the dogs that the paddleboard is a safe place to be but not all the dogs are convinced. Colin has the greatest challenge when he realises years of obedience training doesn't equal trust between man and dog. The yellows take on canine parkour, Josh and dog Douglas and Jennie (known as Badger) and her dog Bodger are naturals but underdogs Daisy and her samoyed Zuri need to work on the trust between them.

The ultimate test of trust is a tethered cross country race when all competitors learn that humans and dogs are born to run, but not everyone can keep up.

Final scores are revealed, but who has triumphed in the second stage of the contest? Show less
