Series 2 - 30 Minute Versions

Episode 4

Duration: 29 minutes

First broadcast: on BBC Two ScotlandLatest broadcast: on BBC Two HD

Documentary series following the work of Britain's army of family finders as they track down lost family members. Glaswegian brothers Michael, James and John Buckley were placed in one of Scotland's toughest institutions, the Nazareth Children's Home, when their mother died and their father couldn't cope. After James's wedding in 1966, John disappeared and the family then didn't see him for 50 years. Michael's wife Ellen tried looking for him for decades, using telephone directories and records available. Eventually the family employed a family tracing agency, who found John living in Blackpool. Now John and his wife Betty are coming to Scotland for Michael's 69th birthday, and will meet John's nephews and nieces for the very first time.

Alison Searle from Worthing only discovered she was adopted when she told her parents she planned to get married aged 16. Out of respect for her adoptive parents, she then left it until they died in 2009 to try and find her birth mother. Adoption papers revealed her mother's name, but Alison was saddened to then discover that she'd died 23 years ago. But her official records also revealed that her mum had gone on to have three other children, so Alison searched on social media sites, where she found her half-sisters Liz and June. They all meet up to visit the mother and baby home where their mum gave up Alison for adoption, and go to an exhibition about the mill where their mother worked in Yorkshire, to understand her life more.
