Nell's Kitchen

In Episode 4 Nell tours the East Village and the Anti Folk movement

Duration: 57 minutes

First broadcast: on BBC Radio 2Latest broadcast: on BBC Radio 2

Join singer songwriter Nell Bryden as she goes on a musical journey through her home town of New York City in her new series Nell's Kitchen.

Over the next few weeks, Nell celebrates a different area of the Big Apple that gave rise to a different genre of music, and a generation of great artists. And she looks at the effect that music had on the city and how that music then went on to become popular around the world.

Tonight in the final part of Nell's Kitchen, Nell travels further south to the East Village, home of Anti Folk. On her journey of discovery, Nell takes a tour through the East Village to find the iconic venues that launched the careers of well known Anti Folk artists including the now closed Sidewalk cafe and talks to musicians Jeffrey Lewis and Randi Russo. All accompanied by a great Anti Folk soundtrack.
