The first of two programmes from the 2016 World Pipe Band Championships at Glasgow Green, with 234 bands competing in various grades over 2 days, and with around 40,000 people in attendance. Grade 1 pipe bands are judged on 2 pieces of music - a March, Strathspey and Reel followed by a medley of their own choice.
In the Grade 1 finals, 12 bands competed for the coveted title eventually won by Field Marshal Montgomery Pipe Band from Northern Ireland for the 11th time. Under the leadership of Pipe Major Richard Parks MBE, the band have not been out of the top four since 1997 and have been at the forefront of the pipe band world for the last two decades, winning over 50 major championship titles.
