Bha smocadh aon uair air fhaicinn mar rud a bha a h-uile duine ris. Tha cùisean ge-tà air atharrachadh gu tur san là 'n-diugh. Bha an 26mh den Mhàrt a' comharrachadh deich bliadhna bhon a chaidh an casg connspaideach a stèidheachadh ann an Alba, agus bheir sinn sùil air mar a thàinig an casg gu bith, agus na bha e a' ciallachadh dha daoine a bhith às aonais.

Tha sinn eòlach air an aithris gur e Alba an t-àite as mì-fhallain san Roinn Eòrpa. 'S e smocadh as coireach airson a' chuid as motha de dhroch-shlàinte agus bàsan an-abaich a ghabhadh seachnadh san dùthaich. Gach bliadhna, tha tombaca ga cheangal ri cairteal de bhàsan agus ri 50,000 neach a bhith gan toirt dhan ospadal. Dh'fhaodadh gu bheil tinneasan co-cheangailte ri tombaca a' cosg còrr air £500 millean do Sheirbheis Slàinte na h-Alba gach bliadhna. Leis an sin bha cruaidh fheum air a' chasg, ach bha gu leòr le teagamhan.

Seallaidh sinn air a' cheangal eachdraidheil le malairt an tombaca bhon 18mh linn, agus cluinnidh sinn bho Iain MacAmhlaigh agus Carina NicLèoid a tha air a bhith a' smocadh fad am beatha. Bheil beachd dhaoine air atharrachadh, agus dè a' bhuaidh a tha an casg air a thoirt air ar cultar agus ar coimhearsnachdan?

26 March 2016 was the tenth anniversary of Scotland's once-dreaded smoking ban, and we look at how the ban came about and how public life is today with the ban.

Smoking is the primary preventable cause of ill health and premature death in this country, and each year tobacco use is associated with around a quarter of all deaths and over 50,000 hospital admissions. Annual costs to Scotland's health service from tobacco-related illnesses may be higher than £500 million each year, so the ban made total sense - but it wasn't without it's doubters.

We explore Glasgow's intrinsic link through the tobacco industry of the 18th century, and lifelong smokers Iain MacAulay and Carina MacLeod talk about their own experience.

Has our society's opinion changed, and what effect has the ban had on our culture and communities? Show less
