Is meat a moral issue?

The World Health Organisation has warned that processed meats like bacon, ham and sausages now rank alongside cigarettes, alcohol and arsenic as a major cause of cancer. While the report prompts a radical rethink of unhealthy Western diets, it also provides an opportunity to discuss the morality of meat consumption. Only 2% of Britons are vegetarians - does that mean the majority of us don't care about ethical farming, animal welfare and the impact the meat industry has on the world? When it comes to meat, does abstaining make us morally superior?

Should we abolish the House of Lords?

The Houses of Parliament went to battle this week. The Lords successfully delayed a government bill on proposed reductions to tax credits, although it had passed a vote in the Commons.
