The Irish have not won the championship outright in successive years since the late 1940s, but a superb run of results over the last year established them as the northern hemisphere's top-ranked nation. Scotland, though, won the last Murrayfield meeting in 2013 despite only having 29 per cent possession, and they have notably improved this season under new coach Vern Cotter.
