Episode 5: On the Run

Duration: 30 minutes

First broadcast: on BBC One Northern Ireland HDLatest broadcast: on BBC One Northern Ireland

O'Hare asks Ricky to hide one of his 'on the run' friends... just until he can get his immunity letter sorted. Ricky and Sinead are called into Hunt's office. As part of the 'Regaining Trust' initiative they are told their new duties are to prevent any unforeseen scandals at Stormont. Sinead makes the mistake of asking a sensible question: 'If they are unforeseen, how can we prevent them?'

Meanwhile, Ricky is summoned to meet Minister O'Hare at his 'office' up in the 'Chucky Our Bar'. O'Hare asks Ricky to hide Bin Lid McFadden, an 'on the run' IRA man, in his house in Bangor. A shocked Ricky refuses. O'Hare pleads with him that it is just until he can get Bin Lid's immunity letter sent over from Downing Street. Ricky is having none of it and O'Hare leaves the bar. Ricky is
about to go himself but is collared by Bin Lid, who has been listening in all along. Bin Lid makes Ricky an offer he can't refuse and insists that he hide him. Instead of taking him to Bangor, Ricky takes Bin Lid to his office in Stormont for the night. The next day O'Hare is apoplectic, telling Ricky they 'can't have an IRA man in Stormont'. Ricky answers that he wouldn't be the first one. O'Hare makes dark warnings about a serious political crisis. If this gets out, the institutions could collapse.

Then Minister McCoubrey walks in and innocently asks who Bin Lid is. After floundering about, Ricky lies and tells McCoubrey that Bin Lid is an American investor called Mr Howdy. McCoubrey insists that 'Mr Howdy' come to east Belfast with him to meet some Protestants who need jobs. Just when Ricky thinks it can't get any worse, Hunt discovers Bin Lid's immunity letter, which has arrived from Downing Street. It's all going to end in a terrible scandal unless Sinead and O'Hare can save the day. Show less
