Patrick is on the floor; his arm and one side of his face are numb. Denise and Ian ring the doorbell and peer through the curtains but there is no response. Ian reassures Denise that they can check on him after dinner. After managing to get up, a worried Patrick studies himself in the mirror and looks up his doctor’s number in the phonebook – but decides not to call. Later on, Patricks sees Ian and Denise on the Square and lies – saying he was just napping earlier.

They tell Patrick that they’ve set a date for the wedding and he suggests toasting this in the Vic, but it’s clear he isn’t feeling well. After heading home from Linda’s party, Patrick opens the door to Shirley and George and agrees to put them up for the night. Shirley and Patrick have a drink together – she confesses to him that she is devastated that Dean can’t remember any of the good bits of his childhood.

Shirley introduces George to the Carters as Heather’s little boy and tells them she is going to take him to visit Dot. Johnny tells Linda and Mick that he has invited Gianluca to Linda’s party. Lee sticks up for Johnny and tells Linda and Mick that he told Johnny he should invite him. Linda is initially unsure but Mick tells Johnny to go and get him. Dean walks in on Shirley holding George and is uncomfortable at the sight. He questions Nancy about when Shirley got back, where she went and who George is. Dean and Lee are re-acquainted for the first time in years. Johnny nervously waits for Gianluca at the tube station.

Gianluca tries to kiss him to break the ice but Johnny retreats. Gianluca tells Johnny that it’s his last night in London for a while – they should just enjoy themselves while they can. Johnny and Gianluca arrive at the Vic and Johnny introduces him to Mick, Linda, Lee, Nancy, Tina and Tosh. He takes Gianluca upstairs for a tour of the Vic. Gianluca kisses Johnny and insinuates that he would like to have sex with him. Johnny confesses that he’s a virgin and Gianluca is understanding – he’s happy whatever happens. Johnny decides he is ready and they have sex.

Lee approaches Whitney and tries flirting with her but she blows him off. Mick catches Johnny and Gianluca coming out of the bedroom and tells Johnny he wants a word. He awkwardly has a conversation with Johnny about safe sex. Downstairs Linda and Gianluca chat – he tells Linda that she has a lovely place and she begins to warm to him. As Linda finishes her emotional birthday speech, Johnny grabs the microphone and starts singing ‘Mama’ by the Spice Girls – Tina, Lee, Nancy and Mick join him. Dean looks on sombrely – how do they make family look so easy? He tells Shirley that looking after George for a weekend doesn’t mean that she’s cut out to be a good parent.

Dean storms out of the pub and Shirley heads upstairs in tears. Nancy finds an upset Dean outside the pub. He tells Nancy he doesn’t remember Shirley ever being with him the way she is being with George. Linda tells Johnny that she likes Gianluca and tells him to go and enjoy his time with him while he’s still got it. After the party has finished, Linda thanks her family – she’s had the best birthday ever. Back in their bedroom Linda tells Mick that she loved her night and when he asks if there’s anything else he can do for her she tells him that she wants them to have another baby…

Tina is appalled when Billy confesses to her that he has been using their flat’s electricity. Billy promises that he will get Tina all the money back that he owes – they agree to keep it between the two of them but Tosh walks in and is suspicious. She demands that Tina tells her what the conversation was really about. Billy asks Phil to sub him fifty quid – Phil agrees; but it’s only a loan. Billy looks sombre in the Vic and when Les tells him that he has a face for undertaking it gives Billy an idea.

He asks Les for a job and Pam persuades Les to give him a trial. Tosh makes it apparent to Billy that she knows exactly what he was up to with their electricity – Tina told her. Tosh explains to an eavesdropping Lee that the flat has been a nightmare since day one – the police think it may have been where Lucy was murdered. Lee clocks Billy suspiciously. Show less
