Neighbourhood Blues

Series 3

Episode 5

Duration: 45 minutes

First broadcast: on BBC One HDLatest broadcast: on BBC One Wales

Many of Britain's seaside towns have been transformed from once-thriving holiday hotspots to areas of increasing poverty and social breakdown.

This episode follows the fortunes of a homeless alcoholic man who has been rehoused on an estate in Bridlington, on the East Yorkshire coast, much to the consternation of those living nearby.

He is well-known to the local neighbourhood police team who are called, on more than one occasion, to his new home after his next-door neighbours complain of drink and drug-fuelled parties. When one of his 'guests' is suspected of taking heroin it is the last straw for the council's housing officer.

Anti-social behaviour is also proving to be a problem in nearby Hull. Bored youths seem intent on vandalising a newly renovated skatepark and the neighbourhood police officers have strong words for them, and then try to encourage them to take part in a new outdoor sports scheme. Show less
