Dvorák's cello concerto, the final major work from his sojourn in America, received its premiere in England in 1896 conducted by the composer. For the remaining years of his life Dvorák travelled little and, other than writing a few chamber works, produced nothing but operas and symphonic poems inspired by the myths and legends of Bohemia and beyond.
