When Leonard Hatch , a mental patient, escapes from an asylum, he heads for his mountain-top hideaway. Unexpectedly Leonard encounters teenager Doris Mae. At first he holds her by force but gradually the bond between the kidnapper and 'victim' grows. This unusual love story stars Martin Sheen in one of his most powerful performances, as the sensitive patient who becomes the girl's friend, teacher and lover.
