B' e neach-teagaisg, bàrd, sòisealach, fear-cruinneachaidh òrain 's beul-aithris agus Gàidheal gu smior a bh'ann an Tormod Macleòid. Rugadh e ann a Port Mhollair sa Rudha a Leòdhas agus bha e a' teagasg ann a Sgoil Loch Croistein an Ùig, a Sgoil a' Chnuic sa Rudha agus ann a Sgoil Lìonail ann a Nis. Bhiodh e a' sgrìobhadh deilbh-chluiche ghoirid a bhiodh aig a' chloinn; a' cruinneachadh facail, abairtean, òrain agus sean-fhacail còmhla riutha; a' sgrìobhadh a h-uile càil le aon chorraig air typewriter; agus an uair sin a' dèanamh leabhraichean de na chruinnich e air am biodh e fhèin a' cur còmhdach. Bha tape recorder aige cuideachd agus cha robh duine a bha tighinn air àrainn air nach deidheadh iarraidh òran, bàrdachd neo seanchas a chlàradh. Bhàsaich Tormod ann a 1968. Anns a' chiad phrògram cluinnidh sinn bho theaghlach agus bho chuid de na sgoilearan a bh' aige ann an Ùig agus anns a' Rudha.
Norman Macleod, Am Bàrd Bochd, was a teacher, poet, writer, socialist, collector and conservator of Gaelic song and oral tradition, and a Gael to his very core. He was passionate about all the spheres in his life and exuded warmth, humour and commitment in each. Norman worked tirelessly and incessantly to preserve and advance the Gaelic language and culture in all its forms but shunned any recognition or accolade. He was a man ahead of his time whose death in 1968 was untimely, but he left, in his collection and works, a lasting legacy worthy of acknowledgment. Show less
