It’s Joey and Alice’s mum’s birthday. Derek offers to drive them to visit her after the R&R youth disco. Derek reminds Joey about a trip to Southend. Joey admits he remembers Derek’s Triumph Stag and hints he’d love to drive one. Joey then tips off the police about a stolen car. Joey’ plan’s thwarted when Derek presents him with a toy car. Later, Derek confronts Joey; if Joey can’t fill his head with anything but hating him he’ll end up a disturbed, lonely little man.
After talking to Lauren, Lucy insists to Joey she’s coming with him to meet his mum. When that backfires, she changes tack, claiming she doesn’t want commitment. Lauren warns Joey not to mess Lucy about; Joey assures her he’s not like that.
Zainab wants Masood and AJ to spend the day at the Argee Bhajee but Syed soon sends them home. City worker Danny comes in for lunch. Syed poses as Tamwar to meet with a mortgage company representative, Adam, to discuss their missed payments. Adam demands the £9,000 be paid in ten days. Later, Danny returns. He persuades Syed to discuss his problems and advises him to tell his family the truth. Instead, Syed tells Zainab Tamwar’s tried hard but the debt’s worse than he thought. Zainab insists she’s going to give Syed £6,000 - the nest egg she’s built up for Kamil and Tamwar.
Roxy makes Michael cupcakes. Offhand comments from Ray, then Fat Boy and Poppy, make Roxy aware people are talking about her. Michael’s amused when Roxy asks if he’s using her.
Jean and Fat Boy are bemused, Phil’s spent the night at the Vic. A decorator comes to give Phil a quote. Deliberating over paint colours, Phil dismisses any suggestion that he go home, he’s staying until the decorating’s done. Show less
