Rushing to the police station, Phil and Shirley find Ben with DCI Marsden and DS Crisp. Shirley implores Ben to tell them why he’s there. Ben confesses; he killed Heather. Marsden laughs in disbelief and Phil plays along, insisting Ben’s not well. Ben’s relieved when Crisp arrests him. Lola walks Jay home. They find the Mitchells’ door wide open and see the disarray inside. Spotting the best friends frame, Jay sends Lola and Lexi home. Phil commands Shirley to get rid of the frame. To Phil’s frustration, Ben refuses to see Richie and is assigned a duty solicitor, Mike. Crisp and Marsden interview Ben. Ben talks about the frame – but it’s not until he mentions covering Heather’s face with a tea towel, something he couldn’t have seen or read about in the papers, that they even consider he might be telling the truth. Back at the Mitchells’, Shirley tells Jay Ben’s confessed. Billy and Lola arrive, concerned about Jay; Jay calmly sends them away. Shirley’s furious with Jay, he insists he tried to stop Ben but it all happened so fast. Shirley holds the frame – without it Ben’s just a lying kid; now it comes down to whether she loves them more than she hates them. The police bang on the door, Shirley stares at the frame...
