Joe Crowley meets newlyweds Janet and Trevor Smith who have just taken on their first renovation together. Janet has tackled some large building projects before, but Trevor is a renovation novice.
They plan to increase the size of their new home by adding two extensions, but only have a budget of £60,000 and are planning to live in the property whilst the work takes place.

They are introduced to a couple who have successfully completed a similar renovation to help them to avoid some of the pitfalls involved in taking on a derelict building.

Joe finds out about the transformation of a row of abandoned properties in Whitechapel that were saved from demolition and one of the UK's Empty Property Officers gives an insight in to his crusade to bring some of Enfield's vacant dwellings back to life. Show less
