Convinced he’s in the right, Ben refuses DCI Marsden’s offer to relocate him. When Abi asks if Ben’s okay, he tells her he was the one that put Phil in jail. However, when Jay and Shirley return, grim faced, from the police station Ben denies his involvement. Mardsen informs the Mitchells that Phil’s been charged with murder, the family realise there must be a new witness and Shirley suspects Denise. Ben continues to protest his innocence at home and tells Marsden that the family can’t know it was him. Marsden reminds Ben Phil will soon find out. Abi reveals to Jay that Ben’s behind Phil’s arrest. Ben returns home to find the family waiting. Shirley tells him to change his statement, but Ben’s convinced Phil going down is a good thing for the family. Jay and Shirley throw Ben out onto the street.
Zainab arranges a family lunch in an attempt to make Tamwar talk. The family are surprised when Amira invites Anthony and amused by his comments about their food and culture. During a game of Ludo, Tamwar snaps, shouting at Zainab but quickly retreats back into silence.
Tanya and Max’s plan to deal with Lauren gently soon goes awry when Max insists she goes to University and she retorts rudely. However, when Max has calmed down, he and Tanya tell Lauren she doesn’t have to go back to school but must start work in the salon. Max is understanding when Tanya avoids his attempts to be intimate.
Jane struggles to make a decision regarding Gethin’s job offer. Ian mocks up a restaurant scenario to test Jane. His petty criticisms leave Jane despondent but Bobby and Lucy thought the food was amazing and Ian eventually relents and praises her. Jane accepts the job.
