Dolina

Duration: 1 hour

First broadcast: on BBC ALBALatest broadcast: on BBC ALBA

Rugadh agus thogadh Dolina NicIllFhinnein ann am Marbhaig, baile beag iasgaich ann an Sgìre nan Loch: seachdnar anns an teaghlach, agus ise mar isean deireidh linn. Ghluais i gu Dùn Èideann ann an 1957, agus fad nan 60an agus nan 70an bhiodh i mar chùl-taic dha ath-bheòthachadh ceòl dùthchais na h-Alba. Thug an t-seinn aice tlachd agus misneachd dha mòran, agus 's mòr is fheàirrde dualchas nan Gàidheal a cuid sgrìobhaidh dha rèidio agus a cuid cleasachd - gu h-àraid, 's mathaid, mar an aon Ghàidheal anns a' Cheviot, the Stag and the Black Black Oil aig 7:84. Le beagan cuideachaidh bhon tasglann, gheibh Doli a moladh 's i a' còmhradh agus a' cuimhneachadh le Domhnall Uilleam Stiùbhart, le càirdean, le caraidean, agus le luchd-eòlais ann an caochladh àiteachan eadar-dhealaichte. Tha deagh astar eadar Marbhaig nan Loch agus Taigh-Seinnse a' Waverley ann an Dùn Éideann, ach tha pàirt aca uile ann am beatha iom'-fhillte Doli.

Born and brought up the youngest of seven children in the fishing community of Marvig on the east coast of Lewis, Dolina MacLennan became, within a few years of moving to Edinburgh in 1957, a mainstay of the Scottish folk revival of the 60s and 70s. Her Gaelic singing was a revelation and an inspiration to many while her writing for radio and her acting - perhaps particularly as the only Gael in 7:84's The Cheviot, the Stag and the Black Black Oil - contributed greatly to the developing culture of the Gàidhealtachd. In this archive-rich celebration of her career, Doli converses with Domhnall Uilleam Stiubhart and reminisces with family, friends, and associates in locations as different from one another as Marvig and Edinburgh's Waverley Bar but all of them integral to her many-faceted career.
