Recent Broadway star and Tony Award nominee, Joanna Lumley, takes a historical, theatrical and musical journey down America's "Street of Dreams".
In programme one, You've Got To Be Carefully Taught, Joanna examines how Broadway's shows have responded to and mirrored changes in American society; adapting and thriving during political and cultural upheaval. From its roots in the immigrant community, to the birth of the Civil Rights movement and the horror of 9/11, Broadway has played its part in changing attitudes and breaking boundaries.
Interviewees in the three-part series include Hal Prince, Oscar Hammerstein III, Jim Dale, Joel Grey and the award-winning directors Michael Mayer and Julie Taymor. Show less
