It's the morning after the night before, when Hayley caught Leo snogging Joanne on her sofa. Hayley wakes having spent the night on Robbie's sofa and heads home. Her flat is empty. Leo is in a manic phase and is wandering the streets in a soaked t-shirt. He enters bedraggled and agitated. He offers Hayley 6 months rent in advance, but she just wants rid of him now. His anger rises and he smashes a vase, leaving Hayley horrified and scared.

Jack offers to 'sort out' Leo, but Hayley's reluctant. Foolhardy, Jack confronts Leo at Hayley's flat and, surprisingly, Leo quickly backs down, passing the message to Hayley not to blame herself. It's before noon and Leo's drowning his sorrows in the Tall Ship. Like a lost soul, Leo goes to speak to Michael but is deflected by Leyla. He leaves a message 'Tell Michael I love him', but Leyla fails to pass it on.

Disconsolate, Leo moves on to Gabriel's shop but he's busy with customers. He makes his way to the Brodie's house, where he breaks in and starts to write a note. He's interrupted by Conor who, spotting Leo's kitbag and sensing adventure, persuades Uncle Leo to take him on that camping trip he always promised. Tormented, Leo finds himself agreeing and an excited Conor rushes off to pack. Meanwhile, Hayley arrives back at her flat to find Leo has left her £3k. She's shocked and stunned. Where is he? We see Leo and Conor on a bus heading for Loch Lomond. The boys arrive and set up camp. Conor is in his element skimming stones. It's a magic moment for both of them but we sense the torment mounting in Leo.

Back at the Brodies', Hayley, Nicole and Gabriel discover Leo's knapsack full of money but Conor's also missing. The search party commences. Leo's movements are revealed and everyone becomes increasingly anxious. The police are called. By the campfire, an increasingly upset Leo confides in Conor that he shot a wee boy in Afghanistan on his tour of duty. Conor is horrified, Leo sobs. In a fit of rage, he gives Conor money and tells him to leave. Terrified, Conor heads back. At the lochside, Leo has polished off a bottle of brandy. He smashes the bottle and wades into the water as if to commit suicide. He hears a ghostly cry "Uncle Leo". Conor's returned. He frantically beckons Leo back to shore and saves his Uncle's life.

The community are desperate to help find Conor and Leo. In the heat of the moment, Leyla divulges to Gabriel that it was Leo who broke into the surgery a few months ago and stole the prescription pad, then Michael tells Gabriel about Leo's addiction to painkillers. Gabriel's angry about being kept in the dark. As the pair argue, Conor arrives on the scene closely followed by Leo. Relief and happy reunions all round.

Raymond's left holding the baby while Eileen heads off to campaign for Nick. Nicole ingratiates herself on them, any excuse to see Nick. Eileen sends her off to deliver leaflets but she's not amused and heads instead to The Oyster where Eileen catches her 'skiving'. Nicole is exasperated by Eileen's patronising telling off and tells her that Nick cares for her, and he kissed her! She tries to retract this statement, but it's too late. Eileen is gobsmacked and 'sacks' Nicole from the Campaign. Eileen summons Nick to her flat for an urgent chat. He initially denies the kiss, but then says Nicole misread their 'friendship' and admits she did try to kiss him. Eileen is furious. If this gets out, its curtains for Nick and the campaign et al. Eileen goes to the Health Centre to talk to Michael. He's left for the day so Leyla gets the news about Nicole instead. She is devastated, disbelieving. What will Michael say? Perhaps he doesn't need to know right now, suggests Eileen.

Nicole stalks Nick at the Subway and he curtly explains he can't be seen with her any more. She's sobbing and tells him she loves him. In a panic he promises to meet her after the election. She tries to kiss him again. He's horrified and sends her on her way. Meanwhile Eileen tells Leyla about Nicole's claim and Leyla tells her she'll deal with it. She confronts Nicole about her feelings for Nick, but doesn't tell Michael.

Bills are mounting in the Mullen household. Scarlett's considering more shifts at The Tall Ship, but Jimmy's having none of it. All her energy should be going into her Chemo recovery. Amber and Fraser are all loved up, but Jimmy is angry with him for not giving him the 'regular' work he promised him. Desperate for work, Jimmy phones McCabe. The timing fits and actually he needs someone he can rely on, but Jimmy insists Scarlett must not find out. Jimmy leaves with an envelope stuffed with money. Frazer is suspicious that Jimmy's moonlighting and later when Jimmy meets McCabe and a bag of money changes hands, Fraser witnesses this and wants to know how he can get a slice of this action?
