As councils cut the road budgets, the future of speed cameras is uncertain. David Whiteley uncovers some of the facts about their cost and meets the community in Northamptonshire who have decided to operate their own.

Victorian piers are icons of our seaside. But only half survive, with many others struggling to cling on. Ten years ago Southwold pier was derelict but it's been brought back from the dead and attracts thousands of visitors. Can other piers learn from its example?

In these difficult economic times there is one industry that's doing very well. Top-notch services for dogs. Sadie Nine and her own pooch meet three businesswomen who are enjoying success. They sample the delights of the Essex canine cafe, which now supplies posh dog nosh to Harrods, accessories from another Essex-based dog boutique, and even a dog wedding service in Northamptonshire.
