Murray puts his foot in it with Eileen, letting her know 'something' is happening tonight but not what. Panicking, Eileen confides in Joanne and finds that she's talking herself around to the idea. Returning to the pub, Eileen is confronted with the baby shower surprise and, despite herself, is disappointed at her mistaken expectation. Opening up to Raymond about her upset and her expectation about what tonight was for, Raymond feels compelled to propose and Eileen accepts. Raymond is ecstatic and demands Annie get the champagne out from the cellar. But Raymond can see Eileen isn't in it for the right reasons and realising her acceptance is one of settlement rather than love, he doesn't announce it to the pub. The engagement is off. Examining their odd relationship, Eileen is sorry that she can't make Raymond truly happy, despite the obvious love they have for each other, it just isn't enough. As they agree to continue as they are, it seems only heartache can possibly lie ahead.
