Nina and the Neurons: In the Lab

Episode 17: Sniffing Smells

Duration: 15 minutes

First broadcast: on CBeebiesLatest broadcast: on CBeebies

Scientist Nina and her young Experimenters discover the amazing ways that things can change and react in the everyday world.

Nina investigates how smells reach our noses, with the help of Ollie, her scent neuron. Experimenters Eliana, Eliza and Miranda visit Nina in her science lab and try to identify different things with just their sense of smell. Nina does an experiment with smelly cheese and some smoke to show how smells spread out, or diffuse, in the air.

Then they all go to meet a super-sniffing police dog. The children and Xena the dog are challenged to find Nina's hidden scarf using their noses. Back in the lab, they do a final experiment and discover that smells only reach our noses when there are enough smelly particles in the air for us to smell them. Show less
