Wild Weather

20/09/2010

Duration: 29 minutes

First broadcast: on BBC One EastLatest broadcast: on BBC One Cambridgeshire

Richard Daniel explores wild weather in the East. As he travels across the region, Richard discovers how extreme weather has affected us and why the weather varies so much across our part of England.

We've enjoyed hot, dry summers but suffered some of the worst flooding in the country - wild weather can cause enormous destruction. Using new interviews and archive film, Richard looks back to the devastating floods of 1953 which killed hundreds of people living along the East coast.

A few people go looking for bad weather. Richard meets a storm chaser who sets out to film tornados, and rain cheaters who use the strangest objects to stay dry. He also looks for the wettest, coldest and driest parts of the region. One place has so little rain it is officially a desert and the driest place in Britain. Show less
