Having retrieved Zoe’s birth certificate, Mo commandeers Fatboy’s van and heads to meet a disguised Kat. Mo probes Kat as to why she needs a new identity. Kat reveals that she’s being chased as she and Alfie sold some dodgy time shares and had their pub torched. Incredulous on hearing of the debacle, Mo asks as to why Alfie has left Kat to deal with the repercussions. Kat reveals that Alfie’s dead. Mo tries to persuade a reluctant Kat to come home. Meanwhile, on the square, enquiries are already being made into the Slaters’ whereabouts by two thuggish-looking men. Kat sneaks home through the back door. But her happy reunion with the family is short-lived as Jean informs her that two men are waiting for her in the living room.
As Heather prepares for George’s christening, a guilty Minty tries to broach the subject of Sam. His attempts fall on deaf ears as Heather romanticises about their future as a family. Alone with Sam, Minty struggles with the thought of abandoning Heather and George. Fearful that she will lose Minty and be left alone, Sam turns on the charm to manipulate him. Ronnie presents Sam with a plane ticket to Spain, but is stunned to hear that Sam’s undecided about leaving. Panicked, Ronnie scares Sam with the veiled threat of social services and the return of Jack’s £30k. Ronnie’s relived as Sam takes the bait. Preparing to leave, Sam tries to coax Minty into accompanying her, but he remains torn. Outside the church as Sam begins to call him, Minty agonises over his dilemma of which woman to choose.
