Born in Somalia to strict Muslim parents, Ayaan Hirsi Ali escaped an arranged marriage to become a serial refugee. She sought asylum first in the Netherlands where she became a member of the Dutch parliament and an outspoken critic of Islam. She helped make a provocative film about the treatment of women in Islamic society which led to the assassination of the film's director and to death threats against her. Now she lives, with protection, in the United States where she continues to criticise Islam. She talks to Jonathan Charles. Show less
