When TV presenter Kristian Digby set his heart on owning a stylish contemporary property in London, his options - and his budget - were limited. But this was not going to put him off. The solution was simple: instead of buying his dream home, he would build it!
Using his back garden for a plot, Kristian is convinced he can build his perfect pad in nine months and with a tiny budget of 150,000 pounds. But self-building is not for the fainthearted and what follows is a rollercoaster ride as Kristian struggles to prevent his dream home turning into a nightmare.
The steel frame of Kristian's house has been completed and some of the internal fixtures and fittings are being installed, however things do not go to plan when one of the expensive roof lights goes AWOL in East London.
Kristian visits the perfect self-built rural retreat in Hertfordshire while two other self-builders showcase their homes. We meet an architect in Derbyshire who combined the old with the new to create the perfect contemporary cottage in the Peak District and the green self-builders in Cornwall who enjoyed constructing their own home so much that they now make a living building eco-homes for other people.
Kristian is also just another brick in the wall at building college as he learns the art of bricklaying. Show less
