Great North Run

Duration: 4 hours, 5 minutes

First broadcast: on BBC One WestLatest broadcast: on BBC One Yorkshire

Sue Barker presents live coverage of the Great North Run, the world's most popular half-marathon, which attracted a record 52,000 runners in 2008.

Leading the way along the route from Newcastle to South Shields are the elite runners, who battle it out to put their name on a roll of honour which includes the likes of Paula Radcliffe, Paul Tergat and Martin Lel, who will be aiming to regain his title in this year's race. Ethiopian athletes won both the men's and women's events in 2008, with Tsegay Kebede and Gete Wami triumphing. Many of the non-elite runners are raising money for charity and among the host of celebrities taking part are former Olympic champion rower James Cracknell and boxer Tony Jeffries, who won bronze in 2008 in Beijing.

Steve Cram, Brendan Foster and Paul Dickenson are the commentators. Show less
