Mary Queen of Charity Shops

Episode 2

Duration: 1 hour

First broadcast: on BBC Two EnglandLatest broadcast: on BBC One Yorkshire

Determined to prove that charity shops can be heavyweights on the high street, Mary Portas has taken on her own shop and is hoping to transform it from the poor relation of retail into a shopper's delight.

Having sent out an open invite to the charity sector, Mary throws open the doors of her retail academy in central London. In the second episode of this three-part series, she must teach a class of volunteers how to raise their game - and their profits. However, the retail guru's new ideas are not well received.

Back at Mary's shop in Orpington, big changes are under way as she has convinced Head Office to pay for a shop manager and to give her 15,000 pounds for a radical shopfit.

But there's dissent in the ranks as Mary's grey army - who have years of service under their belts - lose faith in her plans. By the time the shop is relaunched, Mary is wondering if she has gone too far. Show less
