Episode 4: Mel

Duration: 28 minutes

First broadcast: on BBC HDLatest broadcast: on BBC One Wales

Thirteen-year-old Mel lives with a family of six in the Save the Family homeless project in North Wales. Mel and her family have lived there for two years, and with 30 other homeless families there, the children have built up strong bonds.

Mel has unexpectedly become a role model for the other children in the project and she has modified her behaviour to set a good example to the youngsters. When she first arrived she was disruptive and withdrawn, but as her confidence has built she has taken a more positive position in the community.

When it is suggested that the homeless children from London come up for a visit to Wales, Mel is the first to volunteer to co-ordinate the party, and she even gets one of the younger kids to act as her PA. It's the first time she has taken on such a big responsibility, and she takes to her new role with enthusiasm. Show less
