When their giant burrowing machine hurtles out of control, Dr Perry and his American backer, David Innes , discover a terrifying pre-historic world enclosed in a vast subterranean cave. Captured by a tribe of half-human creatures, the two explorers survive a series of hair-raising adventures until they come to grips with the real rulers of the world-the grisly Mahars.
