Composer of the Week: Medtner

With the end of the Second World War,
Medtner could pick up the threads of his life again, although a recently discovered heart condition made his performing career look doubtul. However, he went on to compose his Sonate-Ballade, which he was later given the opportunityto record by his benefactor. Donald Macleod introduces this and his last and most deeply felt work - his Piano Quintet.
