The Battle of the Atlantic - 50 Years On

on BBC One London

Fifty years ago today one of the decisive battles of the Second
World War had been won. From the historic Mersey waterfront Brian Redhead describes the week of commemorations.
HM the Queen met some of the veterans and formally opened the National Maritime Museum in Liverpool; from HMY
Britannia off Anglesey, HRH the Duke of Edinburgh reviewed an international fleet of ships from countries that fought in the battle; there was a march past of 2,500 veterans through the city, and a fly past of modern and historic aircraft of the Royal Navy and Royal Air Force over the Mersey.
