The Caucasian Chalk Circle

At the end of the last war. in order to help two Russian villages reach agreement over a disputed valley, a famous folk singer and his company of actors give a public performance of the legendary story of The Circle of Chalk in which two women, each with a justifiable claim to be the mother of a young child, are put to an extraordinary test by a drunken judge. The Prologue:
