At Bingham, a big village eleven miles from Nottingham, a large new comprehensive school will open on April 17, the first of four designed to give a cultural and social focus to their respective neighbourhoods. Henry Swain , who has for long been associated with the county's school building programme, outlines the thinking behind this venture.
