In his second talk on January 18, H. I. Bell , Keeper of the MSS. and Egerton Librarian of the British Museum, discussed chiefly the versions of the New Testament. Today in his concluding talk he is to discuss chiefly the versions of the Old Testament.
He will deal with the Hebrew Bible, the utility of the Greek version, the formation of the Septuagint version, later Greek translations, recent discoveries. Again, he will say something of the early Latin versions. St. Jerome's Vulgate-the Bible of the Middle Ages.
In conclusion, he will stress the reassuring effect of recent discoveries as regards the New Testament. The text seems broadly to be soundcorruptions and variants usually affect only minor details.
