The Rouble Diamond World Golf Classic
HARRY CARPENTER introduces the first day's play in this new-style international team championship at the King's Course, Gleneagles Hotel.
The four home countries, together with powerful teams from the USA, Australasia, Europe and the Rest of the World, compete for E25,000 worth of prize money, with £1,500 going to each of the five players in the winning team.
The 1976 Open Champion, JOHNNY MILLER , captains the USA side, and the overseas challenge includes GARY PLAYER, who leads the Rest of the World team, and SEVERIANO BALLESTEROS , the young Spaniard who thrilled the spectators at Birkdale with his adventurous golf, finishing second only to the mighty Miller.
