On the surface, Drancy is an unremarkable
Parisian suburb, yet in its centre is a housing estate where, during the Second World War, more than 60,000 Jews were imprisoned before being deported to Auschwitz. Since then, people have lived on the estate and its past has been largely ignored. This year, the future of its residents was threatened when the French government declared it a national monument.
