Opera on 3

on BBC Radio 3

L'Orfeo
Rising French star Emmanuelle Haim conducts a semi-staged performance of the first great opera, recorded in London's Barbican Hall with a talented young cast led by Ian Bostridge. Monteverdi's richly scored masterpiece sees the fabled musician Orpheus charming the powers of the underworld into returning his beloved Euridice. But in one moment of weakness he loses her again.
Les Sacqueboutiers, Le Concertd'Astree, conductor Emmanuelle Haim
