FAIREST ISLE
1.00 Wartime at the National Gallery
Robert Philip presents the fourth of five programmes recalling Myra Hess's series of wartime chamber concerts. During 1943, the concerts passed the 1,000 mark and the programmes became more wide-ranging, including, for example,
Tudor church music. At the same time, famous pianists including Solomon and Benno Moiseiwitsch continued to play to packed houses.
