Edinburgh Military Tattoo

on BBC One London

Highlights from the floodlit esplanade of Edinburgh Castle, as over 800 performers, 20 motorcycles and 12 horses take part. This year's Tattoo celebrates the 200th anniversary of the Gordon Highlanders in a display of pageantry, action and music portraying moments from the famous regiment's history.
Sadly the bicentenary marks their last anniversary. Later this year they will become part of a new regiment to be called The Highlanders. Over musicians will display their skills, including the Massed Band of the Royal Air Force, the newly-formed Highland
Band, the Band of the Dragoon Guards, Australia's Rats of Tobruk Memorial Pipes and Drums, and the Delta Police Pipe Band from Canada. High speed skill and courage will be added by the Flying Gunners - the Motor Cycle Display Team of the Royal Artillery. In a sensational finale, the Massed Bands are joined by the Kevock Choir and the rest of the cast to bid Farewell to the Gordons.
The show concludes with the evocative sound of the lone piper, and the performers march off to the stirring strains of The Black Bear which traditionally signals the end of a Scottish regiment's working day. Commentary by Tom Fleming. Director/ProducerSteveSmith
