BAXENDALE'S WORKS BAND

on Forces Programme

View in Radio Times

Conductor, Leonard Davies
Like most other organisations, the ranks of the brass bands have been depleted by the demands upon players for military service and other works of national importance. Nearly a year ago when they were on the air, they were hoping to keep the flag flying as long as possible. And here they are, broadcasting again.
This band had the bad luck to be formed in 1913 and ceased its activities when most of its members a year later were called to the Colours. It was re-started in 1920 and soon won its way to the front rank of the brass band world. All its instrumentalists are employees of the firm. Bandmaster Leonard Davies. for instance. is a ledger clerk
