Not everyone in Overcombe is pleased to have Dragoons and Yeomanry encamped near the village. With them has come Festus Derriman to pester his old uncle, Squire Derriman of Oxwell Hall. The Squire has returned home late at night to find Festus carousing with friends in the house, and the crafty old man devises a trick to get them out and keep them out.
