The war in Spain broke out in July,
1936. The fall of the monarchy had taken place in 1931. In two broadcast talks-tonight and on Thursday - Professor Entwistle, King Alfonso XIII Professor of Spanish Studies in the University of Oxford since 1932 and Director of Portuguese Studies since 1933, is to try to trace the events that led up to the outbreak of war.
Carnegie Research Scholar at the University of Madrid and Centre for Historical Studies, Madrid, Professor Entwistle was Lecturer in Hispanic Studies to the Victoria University of Manchester from 1921 to 1925, and Stevenson Professor of Spanish in the University of Glasgow from 1925 to 1932. He is a member of the Hispanic Society of America, and is the author of ' The Arthurian Legend in the Literatures of the Spanish Peninsula' and ' The Spanish Language '.
