Brilliant Corners: the Story of Riverside Records
1/3. John Fordham looks at one of the heroes of modern jazz recording: Riverside Records. With record producer and label owner Orrin Keepnews , he charts how the label came to record some of the key jazz albums of the 1950s and early 60s. Today Keepnews relates how he dealt with the sometimes difficult Thelonious Monk, how he came to sign pianist Bill Evans , and how he recorded one of jazz's first statements on civil rights:
Sonny Rollins's Freedom Suite. Producer Russell Finch
