This is the 214th meeting of the Three Choirs. Herbert W. Sumsion, who is the conductor-in-chief this year, is organist of Gloucester Cathedral, where he succeeded the late Sir Herbert
Brewer. Herbert Howells, composer of the organ voluntary ' First Rhapsody ', was born at Lydney, Gloucestershire ; became an articled pupil of Sir Herbert Brewer, but withdrew from his work at the cathedral in 1911 to devote himself to composition.
