Omnibus: Russell's Progress

on BBC One London

Today Ken Russell is one of Britain's most brilliant and controversial film-makers. His recent studies of Richard Strauss and Tchaikovsky have provoked every kind of reaction except boredom. In this programme he describes his changing attitudes since Elgar, his first full-length composer-biography, and he talks about how and why he tackled his most recent film The Devils.
The programme shows The Devils at various stages of production and reveals the collaboration between Ken Russell and Peter Maxwell Davies, the distinguished composer who wrote and conducted the film score.
It ends with a progress report on Ken Russell's latest project The Boy Friend, a musical which will have Twiggy as its star and Peter Maxwell Davies in charge of the musical arrangements.
