The last in the summer season of programmes about the arts in the 20th century. Tonight:
The Pilgrimage of Ti-Jean
Jean Carignan - French Canadian folk fiddler extraordinary - at the age of 60 visits Ireland for the first time in search of the music of Michael Coleman whom he has idolised for half a century.
MICHAEL COLEMAN came from the great fiddle-playing area around Sligo. He died an exile in New York in 1945. In his lifetime Decca cut nearly 80 records of his playing, and in 1928 a copy of one of them fell into the hands of a very young street musician in Montreal. This film shows something of the results.
