The question whether there is any legitimate function for a political philosophy has been raised by philosophers and by politicians so often that it might be asked whether there are such things as political principles. Ever since Plato, philosophers have thought about politics. Were they mistaking their job? Or are things so different nowadays that political thinking is an obsolete discipline?
