GPs are dissatisfied with their pay and conditions of service - they claim they're under intolerable pressure. But this means patients too are' under pressure, although only a few record their complaints officially. Paul Ferris examines what can go wrong in diagnosis and treatment and considers what can be done to make the relationship between the hard-pressed doctor and the demanding patient a more satisfactory one.
